Kumar’s March 24 Update

Dear Friends of Sameer and Reena,

This will be a very short update since I need to go to the hospital in a few minutes.

We found out yesterday that Sameer had a stroke while in the unconscious state. The CT Scan shows that the right side of his brain is affected. This area controls motion on the left side of the body, etc. There is also swelling in the brain which can put pressure on the brain stem. We discussed yesterday a surgical option to relieve pressure in the brain and decided that it was too risky because of potential for bleeding due to inadequate blood counts, etc. I think and hope that the swelling was at its maximum when it was discovered yesterday and should therefore go down. He has been stable last night and the situation has not worsened.

The white blood counts are still zero and the rest of the situation remains the same. His vital signs are good due to his good physical conditioning before this illness. In summary, he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Many of you continue to visit to interact with him. We appreciate that all of you have followed the instructions for visitors to the transplant floor: no cold or respiratory symptoms for a week, no contact with anyone with a cold or respiratory symptoms for a week. We also think that it is not a good idea to bring children with you even if they are healthy. We have to be careful not only about Sameer but also about the other patients with compromised immune systems.

We continue to pray and hope for his recovery. I still believe that with the grace of God, he will recover. Thanks for your prayers and good wishes. Take care.

Hi Reena and Sameer’s Family,

We don’t know you personally but have been reading all the updates. I must say, all that’s written about Sameer as a person sounds like he is one Gem of a person. God is always there for good people. Sameer has been very strong and fighting with all his willpower. We continue to pray for him, Reena and his Family and hope that his recovery comes fast and help him live his life in full health. I heard about Sameer through a friend, and I have been checking the blog ever since to find out how Sameer and his family are holding up. Though I don’t know anyone personally, Sameer and his family seem very close, and courageous. I can tell all of you will fight as hard as you can, and I will be hoping and praying every day for you. Dear Kumar Uncle-
Please consider giving Sameer wheatgrass and fresh juices thru his tubing after speaking with the specialists. I am at a wellness place myself and feel that we can all heal thru proper nutrition. I hope you are taking care of yourself.

I do not know Sameer personally, but I hope he gets better very soon so him and Reena can enjoy their lives together once again. Your entire family deserve only happiness, and I am looking forward to the day Sameer is completely healthy and is able to walk out of the hospital with a big smile on his face. Dear Kumar Uncle and family — We are praying for Sameer. As parents of two boys ourselves, we can only imagine how anxious you all must be. I met Sameer many years ago when I considered project Dhosti and even though I didn’t do it (which I regret to this day) I was impressed with his charm, skills and abilities and enjoyed hearing updates on him when I ran into you at various Indian events. He is lucky to have you as a dad.

May the Lord heal Sameer’s body completly, restore his WBC count and eliminate all leukemic cells from his blood. May he recover back to the strong and vibrant individual he is and continue his wonderful and successful life with Reena.

No words can convey the feeling of loss and the sadness one feels for someone who is taken away from the cradle of life at such a young age.
Sameer lives on in our hearts and memories as the idealistic,but pragmatic young man who followed his passion and was not afraid to stand up for his beliefs.I still remember his beef with the McDonalds company and his principled stance on this issue.
Our hearts and prayers are with all of you as you come to grips with this new reality.
May God give you the strength and patience to carry on with Sameer’s legacy of a true warrior in the battleship of life.
