Many people register this weekend

We had many donor registrations throughout the country. In New York, we registered 200 people and the drive was a huge success. Other numbers coming in - Artesia 211, IIT 388, TANA 200+. Thanks for your help! We are not done though and need to keep registering people.

Richa Gera sent in this touching story of a gentleman who registered yesterday after running in the Bay Area Vibha 5k/10k run…

“At the registration drive, I saw a young gentleman ~25 years old, who hadn’t heard of Sameer, Vinay or the drives. When I approached him after the run, he didn’t shrug, asked me for information, listened intently, and then said he would come to the booth once he had a few minutes to think about it. I gave him a couple of leaflets - the helpsameer flier and the process of donation flier.

Fearing if I pushed him harder right then, he’d just walk away, I left him with the info and told him where to find me if needed (thinking I would find him a few minutes later and speak to him again).

About 15 minutes later, he appeared at the booth, and asked for the registration form. He walked a few feet away from the booth and the crowd (towards the back side of the booth, with his back facing us), and stood there. It seemed like he went from staring at the form, to thin air, back to the form…to thin air… for a few mintues….
I approached him again, asking if had any questions. He said ‘yes, some specific ones’, and when I walked him over to the AADP rep to help him get his answers, his first statement was ‘I’m really really scared of needles’.

After hearing about how a simple process could save another life, he overcame his hesitation, filled out the form, and registered.”

I think its a good story of how someone can overcome fear (reflecting on Vinay’s post).
