  21. Jatin Patel Says:

I just clicked on this website from the Merapyar website. I am registered through the National Marrow Registry from the past. But just wanted to let you if not already that there is a Netip National convention taking place in Miami, FL on labor day weekend. I won’t be able to do much else at this time but for those who can, I thought this may help. Aug is Indian Independence day and will be celebrated in alot of cities throughout the US as another potential resource. Much assistance can be found at AAPI website. They have many local chapters and a national convention. Don’t know when or where for this year. But anyways many volunteers can be found there as well. Back to school registration is also a potential idea. As kids register for class they can register to donate if not already. Just need the manpower. Hopefully this helps. Keep up the good work. The marrow statistics are embarrasingly low to say the least 1%. I used to be involved in college with the Indian clubs and organized a drive then through our club. It should be much easier nowadays with the internet, which we didn’t even have then. I noticed the pull down menu for the states and their drives doesn’t have Louisiana on there. Which needs to be added. Also my uncle is a head leader in a temple he helped start 3 hours from Atlanta who could probably provide some contacts and help do a drive near there. If there is someone who can help out with the technical aspects, I am sure alot of South Asians at the temples and other events would step up.. South Asians would be more than willing to donate, even more so at temples and social events. Let me know if you have a point of contact that can be that person and I will try to help as much as I can. We all have got to hit the big national conventions to get the numbers to work for us. A few that are a must is the NETIP, AAPI, TIE, AAHOA, wedding conventions, temple events, back to school registration events. conventions as well. Getting people to donate while registering or giving out time slots for return for donation is a fast, efficient method to get as many as possible efficiently at these conventions. I apologize for all the free advice you may already know about. But we have got to get SouthAsians to step up. Hope this helps.

  22. Jatin Patel Says:

I am trying to think of ways to get more networking resources this cause.
AAPI.ORG, NETIP, TIE, AMSA, TEMPLE ASSOCIATIONS AND ORGANIZATIONS, ISKCON AND BAPS, COPPERPAGES.COM-HOPE THIS HELPS. I will try to get more support on the local level in my family neighborhood in South Atlanta, eventhough I am not over there. There are plenty of temple members and events to have a drive. It should work with local community involvement. Sometimes just need the spark to get it started. Keep your head up.

  33. Norm Says:

Sameer - just went to the web to find out more about the Light the Night Walk (www.lightthenight.org) for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (shouldn’t it really be called the ANTI L&L Society?) that a co-worker is doing and decided to check your website to see how the drive was progressing and saw the FANTASTIC news about your match. I am incredibly psyched for you! AML picked the wrong guy to mess with ! Best of luck with the treatment.

I wonder if there will be donor registration at The Light the Night Walk. I’m gonna contact them and find out. And that got me thinking about the other events that the L&L Society and other cancer organizations put on. Shouldn’t everyone who does Team In Training or does a walk like this be given the opportunity to join the registry? Maybe we can make that happen. I’ve also been thinking about the umbilical cord donation thing and a way to make sure that parents-to-be are aware of this possibility. I’ll keep you posted.

    -Norm

  34. Sameer's Friends Says:

Most LLS events include donor registration and they’re frequently free also. Usually, at some point in the season, an event includes registration where all TnT participants can be added.

  35. Shubh Chintak Says:

This is a miracle indeed, 10 out of 10!

Many thanks to the dedicated donor. May God bless you and may your action inspire others to come forward when called upon.

I am sure that after your complete recovery, both you and Vinay will continue the service and help others in the future. Yes, the work should go on and can not stop now. I am now a committed Bonor and a volunteer.

  69. carol Says:

I am so depressed about Sameer. I volunteer for the NMDP and worked many of the drives in the SF Bay Area for them. I am a grandmother of a 12 year old with AML (www.caringbridge.org/visit/joshuamaligro), he too has relasped and needs a match, but because he is mixed, it will be nearly impossible to find.
I have followed Sameer, Vinay and others to give me hope that victims of this monster (AML) have greater chances of survival. My heart is very heavy today as one more has fallen to the AML beast.
I am now worried about Vinay as his web page is not working. I pray he is still healthy.

  70. JT Klepp Says:

    Dear Bhatia family,

I only found out today that Sameer was gone. I have known him for several years as a colleague in the mobile industry. He was one of the few people I really looked forward to hanging out with whenever there was a mobile conference, as his personality was always 100% genuine and warm.

Having lost both my parents to cancer, I know how hard it is, and although time eases the pain for mind, it never does for the heart, as finding out about Sameer brought so much back for me.

It is just so unjust that these things happen. For me, going to a mobile conference will never be the same.

My heart goes out to you and my deepest condolences as well

  71. Alpa Says:

Dear Sameer and Family & Friends,

I am deeply sadden to hear about Sameer’s passing. Yesterday I read about Vinaybhai’s passing and I was in complete shock, just like today finding about Sameerbhai’s passing. although I never met Sameer or Vinay, I kept them in my prayers and thoughts. I remember sending emails to various medical associations to hospitals and contacts that I knew in regarding donations and advocating for donors. I even would print outs of Red Cross Blood Donations and Bone Marrow Information. I done alot to help them, but I am sadden that this happen. Like Vinaybhai, Sameerbhai was a good man, family man, and someone who had alot of love for everyone based on the website and what my heart tells me. I know he was a great man, a great husband, son, brother, friend, and all.
His fight, educated the Desi Community about the importance of donations and advocacy and the importance of living your life to the fullest. I hope that many people still carry the drive to help those in need. I personally lost two loved ones from brain cancer at a young age of 16 and 3 yrs of age. It was completely devastating. I decided to dedicate my life towards service like helping people, animals, nature, and all. Since 2000, I have done so much for others. Though I miss my loved ones, their message of life and service grew strong in my heart and soul. Vinaybhai and Sameerbhai too had helped me to grow, become stronger, and make service a lifetime commitment.
I think people should learn from these beautiful loving men and dedicate their lives for service and greater good. That’s what life is about. I pray for Sameer’s family and firiends, and Sameer in heaven. I know he is with the Good Lord and well taken care of . My prayers and thoughts are with you all.
    Love Always,
    alpa

  72. Alpa Says:

To Family and Friends of Sameerbhai,

-Remember, though it’s very difficult.time and hard to cope…..Sameerbhai is in heaven with Lord. I hope that the love of God and Sameer helps you to heal and give peace. he won’t be forgotten but his memory will live on forever. His passing is not an end, but everlasting life with the Lord. His Life is Still Celebrated in Heaven and always will be.

I hope this message provides you all the comfort. I know how it feels because I lost loved ones. I am sharing you my experience so you may find comfort and peace.

    Lots of Love and Prayers
    Alpa
